The risk of common leg problems increases with age, if you spend a lot of time standing or sitting due to your work or hobby, if you are pregnant, or overweight.
Most leg and foot problems can be helped if legs are kept healthy early on. Common leg problems such as tired aching legs, spider veins and mild varicose veins can be signs of early venous disease, which can progress into more serious problems such as painful leg ulcers if left untreated.
There are lots of things you can do to keep your legs healthy, such as regularly checking your legs and feet, eating a balanced diet, avoiding smoking and exercising regularly.
Wearing compression socks or tights* (known medically as compression hosiery) can play a key role in both the prevention and management of leg conditions and skin changes. L&R offer a range of attractive colours and styles for men and women that are easy to apply, wear and virtually impossible to tell apart from regular socks and tights. Their range is the first choice for many NHS clinicians.
*If you’re new to compression or have concerns about your legs or feet, please talk to your GP, nurse or pharmacist for further advice on whether compression might be suitable for you.
