How to apply compression hosiery

The Activa Compression Socks are really excellent. I have worn them everyday since they were recommended to me by a medical consultant 11 and a half years ago. I have no doubt that they have both prolonged and improved my life.

Common questions

How often should I order new compression socks or tights?

L&R’s compression socks, stockings and tights will deliver graduated compression for 100 washes. We would recommend that you have 2 - 3 pairs so that you always have a pair to wear if one is in the wash. This equates to being replaced every 6 months. Extra pairs of compression can be purchased direct at the LR Self Care shop.

I would prefer to wear a thigh length hosiery, is there a difference between knee or thigh length?

For most conditions a below knee is as effective as the longer thigh length and you can choose which compression is suitable for you.

Swollen or arthritic knees tend to be more comfortable in thigh length hosiery. Thigh length is suitable for people with painful or protruding varicose veins at the back of the knee.

How do I keep my Activa® thigh high hosiery in place?

Our Activa® thigh high stockings are not self-supportive so may require assistance if you are going to be active whilst wearing them. We recommend using either a medical grade suspender belt or a body adhesive to keep them in place.

Some female patients may feel more at home with thigh length hosiery and suspenders. Activa® thigh length hosiery need suspenders, NHS versions are available.
